Kashmir ki kali Bipasha

Sizzling beauty Bipasha Basu is currently busy with her next serious genre film ‘Lamhaa’. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film reported to revolve around the issue of militancy in Kashmir. And here Bipasha plays a Kashmiri Muslim girl while Sanjya Dutt and Kunal Kapoor appear in prominent roles.

Now playing a Muslim character is not as easy as one thinks for the Bengali lady. The experience had been quite tough mainly in terms of language problem. It had been naturally tough for her as she doesn’t understand Urdu. But it had been fun for her, to learn a new lingo. The actress said to have silently practiced the language few months ahead of the shooting.

While the director had been quite supportive and patient with her, Rahul had been very particular about getting the right diction. So much, that he had even asked sound recordist Manoj Sikka to keep a tab on Bips’s every pronunciation. But at the end of the day, Rahul said to have been appreciative over Bipasha’s efforts.

Besides Bipasha, her co-star and Punjab da puttar Kunal Kapoor had to put in extra homework for his dialogue delivery.

ACTION REPLAYY: Akshay takes Aishwarya on a ride…

Director Vipul Shah gets the super cool Jodi Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai together for his film ACTION REPLAYY. ACTION REPLAYY is a retro cool film that is high on style quotient and emotionally rewarding too.

Aishwarya says, “It is a fun-genre romantic film.”

Akshay adds, “It’s a very special film for me for many reasons. This is my tribute to the 70s that was the greatest retro era. I was kicked with the idea because I’m entering the time in cinema where my father-in-law (Rajesh Khanna) was a superstar. It is my fifth film with Vipul and definitely another one to remember. Ash and I had a briefromantic interlude in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s KHAKEE, but ACTION REPLAYY is our first romantic comedy together. Believe me, I was blushing through the making and there’s a lot I wish to tell my audience about. But Vipul wants me to keep things under wraps for the moment.”

King of comedies, director Vipul Shah, says,

“Akki and I have an impeccable box office record. We enjoyed success with ANKHEIN, WAQT- RACE Again NAMASTEY LONDON and SINGH IS KINNG. ACTION REPLAYY is a film where the two of us return after a gap of almost three years. And believe me, it is a great way to return.”

ACTION REPLAYY is all about rewinding your life. It is about Kishen and Mala – two bickering senior citizens who “rediscover romance” on their 33rd wedding anniversary, when their son gets them into the retro mode.

Paramount picks up 'Sword'

In what's said to be a seven-figure deal, Paramount has picked up "Gideon's Sword," optioning the upcoming novel for Michael Bay to produce through Bay Films.

"Sword" is the first novel in a new Gideon Crew series written by the team of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, scheduled to be published in February by Grand Central Publishing.

The "Sword" deal came together in part because WME reps both authors and Bay.

Preston and Child specialize in horror and techno-thrillers. They've published 13 New York Times bestsellers together, dating back to 1995's "Relic." Preston's nonfiction work "The Monster of Florence" is in development with Tom Cruise's production company, while Child's most recent solo novel "Terminal Freeze" was a New York Times bestseller in hardcover.

The duo's "Fever Dream" was published May 11, debuting at No. 3 on the N.Y. Times bestseller list.

Bay's working on directing and exec producing "Transformers 3" for Par, which is set to open July 1, 2011.

"Sword" represents Bay's second book-to-film deal in a year, following his acquisition of James Frey's "I Am Number Four" last June. Bay's producing the sci-fier for DreamWorks, with D.J. Caruso helming and Timothy Olyphant starring.

Bay, Child and Preston are repped by WME.

Disney, Bruckheimer going 'Lightspeed'

In one of the richest pitch sales of the year, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have plunked down low-seven figures against $3.5 million for Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii's epic space adventure "Lightspeed."

The scribes had previously teamed on the thriller "Deja Vu," which marked the highest spec sale ever when Disney and Bruckheimer paid mid-seven figures for the script in 2004.

Story centers on a young pilot who makes the Earth Interstellar Racing Team and must take his ship on a perilous journey across the galaxy on the brink of war.

Bruckheimer envisions the project as a live-action and potentially 3D pic.

Sale is remarkable given the climate in which pitches without talent attached have become an aberration. But Rossio has a long history working with Bruckheimer and Disney, having penned some of their biggest box-office hits, including the three "Pirates of the Caribbean" pics. He also did work on Disney/Bruckheimer's "National Treasure" films.

Rossio, whose writing credits also include "Shrek," will exec produce "Lightspeed."

Amisha Patel Slaps Her Elderly Chauffer

Ameesha Patel is again in the news for all wrong reasons. She lost her temperament over her elderly driver and it is reported that she slapped him out of anger. It so happened that she parked her car outside her gym and on coming out she found a small scratch on the body of her car. With this small incident, she outraged and repotedly slapped her 50 yr old chauffer.

Narrating the incident, a passerby said, “Ameesha’s new car was parked outside the gym. When she emerged after her workout, she saw a tiny scratch on the side of her car, and flipped out. She started hurling abuses at the driver and kept asking him for an explanation. When he couldn’t come up with an answer, she slapped him hard across his cheek.”

This is not the first time Ameesha showed her bad temperament to her driver. A source close to the actress adds, “Ameesha has had problems with her driver for a long time. Recently he almost banged the car and even took her to the wrong address. He has a slight eyesight problem and despite her telling him to wear glasses he refuses to do so.

He’s been with her for a long time. Her growing frustration with him has got to her. She had a narrow escape in March when a jeep rammed into her car on the Mumbai Pune Expressway.”
As usually happened, Ameesha denied the authenticity of the report. She went on to claim that she has stopped taking her car to the gym for the last three years. “This is utterly ridiculous. Nothing of this sort has happened. My house is walking distance from the gym and I just take my driver with me to hold my umbrella. You can come to my gym and ask around if anything to this effect happened. It’s all lies and I will be very unhappy if this comes out.”

New York traffic halts as Hrithik Roshan runs to meet fans

Mumbai, Hrithik Roshan proved a real traffic-stopper when he sprinted across 42nd Street in New York to meet his eager fans gathered for the premiere of his much-talked about film “Kites”.

On Sunday evening when Hrithik along with his co-star Barbara Mori, director Anurag Basu, wife Suzzanne, parents Rakesh and Pinky Roshan, and other members of the team reached Times Square, he was told to wave out to hordes of Indian fans who had been standing on the other side of the street since morning for a glimpse of the star.

The star made a dash across the bustling street from the venue of the premiere to eager fans across the road.

“Hrithik did indeed dash across the 42nd Street from our red carpet to waiting fans across the road. And we aren’t about crossing just any busy street at peak hour. The 42nd Street is a gigantic universe. Hrithik ran across a good half a mile to get to his fans,” Sanjeev Lamba of Reliance Big Pictures told IANS.

Hrithik’s considerate gesture towards fans at the premiere created panic for the tense and anxious “Kites” team.

“We had to halt all traffic on 42nd Street for Hrithik to cross. So we can finally say Hrithik is the first traffic-stopper from Bollywood to make the crossover,” said Lamba.

Not just a dash across the busiest street to meet his fans, Hrithik and his dad also made impromptu arrangements for about 500 fans to be accommodated in an extra screen at the AMC Empire theatre.

Produced by Rakesh Roshan, “Kites” is set for simultaneous release Friday on more than 2,000 screens worldwide, including 200 in North America and the film is expected to open the global movie market to Indian films. Reliance Big Pictures is distributing the movie.

Shot on location in Las Vegas, Sante Fe and Los Angeles, “Kites” has two versions — Hindi and English. A-list Hollywood director Brett Ratner has worked on the English language version that will open May 28.

Rakesh Roshan said: “What could we do? There were 400-500 of Hrithik’s fans who wanted to see the film. There were women crying, girls tearing their hair and threatening to commit suicide.”

In addition to the 700-seater at the AMC Empire theatre, a smaller 500-seater screener was rented for extra fans at the last minute.

Sheen returning to 'Two and a Half Men'

CBS execs can breathe easy: Charlie Sheen has inked a two-season pact with Warner Bros. TV that calls for him to continue on "Two and a Half Men" at the whopping salary of nearly $2 million per episode.

Deal was reached late Monday after months of wrangling between Sheen's reps and Warner Bros. TV execs. Sheen was al ready the highest-paid thesp among contempo primetime TV actors under his previous salary of about $850,000 an episode. Now he's the top grosser by a mile with a deal that puts him in the neighborhood of the $1.8 million-$1.9 million per seg that Ray Romano pocketed for his final round of "Everybody Loves Raymond" in the 2004-05 season.

"To put a fitting end on the two and one-half months of whirlwind speculation, I'm looking forward to returning to my CBS home on Monday nights," Sheen said in a statement. "I want to thank (CBS chief) Les Moonves for his support."

CBS execs had been anxiously awaiting the outcome of WBTV's talks with Sheen as the Eye preps for its upfront sked presentation at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday.

Sheen floated the idea of his exiting "Men," which is just wrapping its seventh season, in early April, when he let it be known to friends that he was ready to pack it in ( Daily Variety , April 5). Thesp has endured a rocky few months in the public eye as he battles criminal assault charges in Colorado stemming from his Christmas Day arrest for allegedly threatening his wife with a knife. He's awaiting trial in July.

Although reps for Sheen insisted the actor's ambivalence about continuing on the show was genuine, the private consensus among the key players involved was that a megabucks deal would be reached within 24-48 hours of CBS' upfront.

Losing Sheen from "Men" would have been a major blow to the Eye and its Monday comedy stronghold. The 9 p.m. show ranks as primetime's most-watched laffer, with an average of 14.7 million viewers this season. It's the No. 2 laffer in adults 18-49, with a 4.8 rating/12 share, behind only its 9:30 p.m. skedmate "The Big Bang Theory."

CBS has another two seasons to go on its deal with WBTV for "Men," co-created and exec produced by Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn.

“The initial weekend collection has been anywhere around 60-70 percent all over India,” trade analyst Atul Mohan told IANS.

“The movie has made somewhere around Rs.30-35 crore gross in the first three days,” an industry source said.

Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, said: “‘Badmaash Company’ has been above average and done good over the first weekend. It brought us around 72 percent occupancy for 20 shows and an initial weekend gross of Rs.14 lakh. Though contentwise people are neutral about it.”

“We are expecting it to stretch for another weekend as there are no as such any big releases this Friday.”

Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, “Badmaash Company” is actor Parmeet Sethi’s directorial debut. Starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead, it also has Anushka Sharma, comedian Vir Das and reality show star Meiang Chang.

Set in the Bombay of 1990s, the movie is about four youngsters who come together to start a business and con people to make their way.

Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, said: “‘Badmaash Company’ got an okay initial. The movie has been average with around 70-80 percent occupancy. It is not a family movie and is only for youth.”

Britain-based Indian filmmaker Gurinder Chadha’s “It’s A Wonderful Afterlife” also released on the same day but saw a below average response.

“The English version of ‘It’s A Wonderful…’ has been okay with 40 percent occupancy while the Hindi version fell flat,” said Awasthi.

Produced by Sharan Kapoor, “It’s A Wonderful Afterlife” stars Shabana Azmi, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Goldy Notay, Sally Hawkins, Jimi Mistry, Zoe Wanamaker and Mark Addy.

Source from PVR said: “‘It’s A Wonderful…’ has been just average as it is meant only for class audiences.”

Released in Hindi as “Hai Marjawaan!”, the romantic comedy revolves around a mother (Shabana) who goes to extreme lengths to get her overweight daughter married.

“‘It’s A Wonderful…’ has been below average with only 40 percent occupancy. It has been nothing like Gurinder Chadha’s ‘Bend It Like Beckham’,” said Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas.

Finally, the music buffs all over the globe have one fine reason to rejoice and that’s all about the musical release of A.R. Rahman’s recent release ‘Raavanan’ in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. With the album turning to be top-drawers at audio markets, Rahman confesses about the deletion of songs crooned by Asha Bhosle and Sonu Niigaam.

It’s worth mentioning that three songs in ‘Raavan’ were actually meant for Manirathnam’s other project titled ‘Lajjo’ that didn’t take off due to some unavoidable reasons. My marriage will happen with Salman: Katrina Kaif

In a recent talk, Katrina talks about everything under the sun, from her role in ‘Raajneeti’ to her marriage plans to love-hate relationship with peers.

Katrina Kaif is all set to break the myth of a glam doll and try her hand at a serious role with ‘Raajneeti’, director Prakash Jha’s latest political offering. Her de-glam look, draped in a sari in the promos of the movie has already become the talk of the town.

“I went to Prakash Jha’s office thinking that I might say no to the role. But when he narrated my character and the script, he was definitely able to convince me.

Though I mostly enjoy doing fun, romance filled commercial films, after hearing the script I decided not to be prejudiced about it and give it a try. It is nothing like breaking a mould but I am an actor and performing varied roles makes me feel excited.” she speaks about her movie ‘Rajneeti’.

When asked about the kinda relationship she shares with peers,

She tells, “Truly speaking, we share a very tight space while working together but we do exchange conversations. I do not have very close friendship with anyone as such. I know Preity Zinta, I have met Priyanka (Chopra) once at Yash Raj Films and we did discuss a few things. I have shared quite some good moments with Kareena Kapoor. I do not believe in making foes. So it’s very simple, I do not have any differences with any of my peers.”

When asked about marriage then she says, “Yes, I am very friendly to the Khan family. I think I may have just dreamt that I will be getting married to Salman in two years and hence said that. But well, on a serious note, marriage will happen, but when, that is yet not decided.”

Well, Katz nice to know that you become bold in front of media.

Shahid returns as conman in 'Badmaash Company'

New Delhi, May 3 (IANS) Remember Shahid Kapoor doing con jobs in Vishal Bhardwaj's hit "Kaminey"? The actor does the same, but in a more sophisticated avatar, in "Badmaash Company" releasing Friday.

Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, the movie is actor Parmeet Sethi's directorial debut. Shahid has teamed up with Anushka Sharma in the film that also stars comedian Vir Das and reality show star Chang.

Describing the film, Shahid said: "There are very interesting characters, extremely fresh dialogues, con jobs which I have not seen in any other film, but yet very easy to understand. It's not complicated at all. It's a very fun film and there was no reason why I shouldn't be doing it."

Set in the Bombay of 1990s, "Badmaash Company" is about four youngsters who come together to start a business.

What makes their venture a stupendous success is that they find a way to beat the system and soon become the undisputed kings in their business. Living the life of champagne wishes and caviar dreams, the four realise that to make a business successful they don't need big money but a big idea.

With their larger than life schemes, Karan, Bulbul, Zing and Chandu go on a wild roller-coaster ride into the world of sheer glitz and glamour where the stakes are high and risks even higher. They succeed in making quick money by doing all the wrong things... but the right way.

All is hunky dory till the four entrepreneurs are forced to shut shop. They come up with yet another perfect plan to beat the system for the last time.

Shahid said a lot of research went into their looks as the film is set in the 1990s.

"We spent a lot of time deciding the look and styling of the film. We wanted it to represent the 1990s correctly but at the same time we did not want it to look boring," he said.

"We researched on the scenario of the 1990s and used them in the film. For example, we used clothes that were in fashion like high waisted jeans, simple t-shirts which used to be tucked in, the aviators, which were all in vogue.

"Also the calculator watch that was very much in fashion at that time has been used in the movie. The film starts in 1994 and goes on for five years," he explained.
